GISS Hosts Post Secondary Mini Fair
By Ocea McClean A few weeks back, our school hosted a mini fair featuring many universities and colleges from across British Columbia. Even though the event only lasted a short amount of time, it had a huge impact on students thinking about their futures. For many of us, it was the first time we were able to speak directly with admissions reps, ask honest questions, and learn what different programs provide for students. One of the most valuable outcomes of the fair was expo

Letter To the Editor: Why We Like SoundCloud Rap
By Griffin Forbes and Sascha Miller Music taste plays a big part in how students express themselves, and we believe melodic rap should be more popularized because it blends so many different genres instead of sticking to just one. Rock, hip hop, rap, punk rock, and other smaller subgenres were and still are some of the most inspirational influences on this style of music. Instead of keeping the same melodic and lyrical feel, these genres were altered and mixed with rap, creat

Remembrance Day
By Izzie Rudgley November 11th is a day to honor those who served to defend our values and freedoms and those who continue to serve our country today. As Canadians, we mark the day by wearing poppies, attending memorial services, and observing a moment of silence at 11am, which is the time when the armistice that ended World War I was signed. Remembrance Day is just a part of a larger period of remembrance, called Veterans Week, which runs from November 5th to November 11th.

Letter To The Editor: Why AOTTTG2 Is My Favourite Attack on Titan Fan Game
By Gavinn Forsythe I’ve been playing Attack on Titan games since around 2020, and so far AOTTG2 has been my favourite. It has almost everything I’d want in an AOT game. It’s the sequel to one of, if not the first AOT fan game, Attack on Titan Tribute Game (AOTTG) by Feng Lee, and it comes with so many features. AOTTG2 has custom maps, skins, logic, and different types of PvP like sword PvP, rocket launcher PvP, pistol PvP, and shotgun PvP. In all of these PvP styles you get t

Artist Highlight - “Passion vs Practicality”
By Emma Duguid This art piece has made me think intuitively, giving me time to really understand how I feel about art in general. This theme of Passion vs Practicality delves into where you want to settle yourself into place, what truly matters to you, and why that is important. During the process of this piece, I thought about what I want the viewer to see and notice. It brings your eyes to a bit of a middle viewpoint, down the path of the alleyway. This alleyway represents

GISS What????
By Mr. Massey, Interim Editor-in-Chief Back in the nineties, GISS had a student magazine with a wonderfully chaotic, wonderfully perfect name: GISS What? Every time I come across an old copy, I’m struck by the creativity, the boldness, and the very “GISS-ness” of it. When our team first dreamed up bringing student journalism back to life, we toyed with reviving that name. In the end, we decided to lean into another piece of our school’s journalistic history: ‘The STING,’ a ti

Should Schools have Stricter Consequences for Late Students?
Submitted by an anonymous student Being on time at school or class is one of the most simple and important responsibilities as a student. Yet it may be one of the most ignored topics. Depending on whether you are late or on time can affect your grade. Many people don’t realize how important coming to class on time really is. Having stricter consequences for being late not only improves classroom learning but also improves setting you up for success and adulthood. Coming to c

An Interview With Zelk!
How did this all start? And how did you guys become a band? Conner: In Mr. Legun's art class, we made this band. It was like a joke kind of thing going on, but that band didn't last too long and it kind of went through its revolutions and then broke up. And out of the ashes, me and Rowan built a new band. Rowan: Stuck together and built it from the ground up. Then Kyrus started drumming and then we got Lense, who was an exchange student, and he did bass for us first. When he

The GISS Podcast Experience
...thoughts from a guest By Gavinn Forsythe The episode I did was pretty fun. I came up with an answer to the question “what is your least favourite element on the periodic table?” before I went on the podcast. The answer/joke I came up with was “francium, because it has a half-life of 22 minutes which means it gives up just as quick as the country it was named after.” I came up with that joke when I was going to sleep, since it takes me around an hour to fall asleep. I'm
