What are all the things we do in the Media Lab, and how do people like it?

by Maggie McKenzie, Levi McGrath, Kash Robinson

This year, the Media Lab team has been hard at work, providing the school with a well-crafted newspaper, an entertaining podcast, and the start of our Yearbook.

The Media Lab class often operates like an office. We all have our designated seats that we consistently go to when we enter the room. Many people choose to work with classmates for collaborative articles.

As with any project, a crucial part of the creative process is organization, and the media lab is no different. Throughout the week, classes switch from one focus to another, with Monday’s and Tuesday’s being dedicated to the Newspaper and Podcast, and Wednesday’s and Thursday’s being used creating spreads for the Yearbook. These two projects are then assigned teams, with some students leading certain aspects of these projects, such as the Newspaper’s different sections, like Academics, Student Life, Arts, and Athletics. The Yearbook also has roles for individuals like designers, copy editors and photographers.

The Newspaper

On newspaper days, the group mainly focuses on the stories, with every student writing their own articles and choosing photos. A designated design team creates a unique and intuitive layout. This is also when the podcast is recorded, by the entertaining and handsome interviewers and editor. These more frequent podcasts and newspapers help give the school an inside look at what is happening throughout the school year.

The Yearbook

On yearbook days, the team is hard at work designing vibrant and creative ‘2000s Throwback’ inspired spreads, with curated photos that represent the many interesting things that happen throughout the school year. This year’s theme pays homage to the last year of the Y2K style, considered to have ended in the year 2008, which is when the majority of this year's grads were born.
