A few weeks back, our school hosted a mini fair featuring many universities and colleges from across British Columbia. Even though the event only lasted a short amount of time, it had a huge impact on students thinking about their futures. For many of us, it was the first time we were able to speak directly with admissions reps, ask honest questions, and learn what different programs provide for students.

One of the most valuable outcomes of the fair was exposure to a wide range of programs and career pathways.

Many students entered the event with only a general idea of what they wished to peruse in the near future. Speaking with representatives can help people learn about programs they hadn't considered, including specialized degrees, trades, certificate programs and unique areas of study offered by different schools and programs. This can encourage students to think more deeply about their options and what might align best with their strengths and interests. This fair also gave students a clearer understanding of admission requirements, prerequisites, and the skills needed for various programs.

This information allows students to plan their remaining high-school years more efficiently by choosing appropriate courses, setting achievable goals, and preparing stronger applications.

Most importantly, the mini fair helped students reflect on their future in a realistic way. It encouraged conversations with teachers and mentors about career goals, education plans, and personal interests. By connecting students with knowledgeable representatives, the event supported confidence, helping students take meaningful steps toward shaping their future.
