FEATURE: You could go to Italy too!
Renaissance Studies is an immersive elective course taught by Mr. Colleran. In this class you will learn about the intriguing Renaissance Era and its importance in the world's history. This year's class jumped right back into their work after an amazing voyage across the globe. School Dance Recap
By DJ Supina, Julie Morin, and Tiahna Sharma The school dance is an especially important event that brings the school community together in many ways. The planning of the dance took about three weeks and there was a lot of collaboration involved. Those who helped plan the event said they found it very exciting. The decorations were placed nicely around the school; there were streamers on the upper hallway railing, balloons around the Multipurpose room, and a lot of decorative

Student Spotlight
by Violet Miller On a crisp winter afternoon, Rozy was found walking in the halls of GISS. Rozy is an avid horse lover and writer who is looking forward to graduating next year. Let's see what she has to say! Violet: What's one thing you would like to change about our school? Rozy: Better snack accessibility, cause I’ve eaten three apples today and that's all there is. Violet: What's one thing you love about our school? Rozy: The mild freedom. Violet: What's your fa

How Would You Describe GISS To a New Student?
by Sascha Miller My first instinct when asked to describe our high school is to say GISS is a quality school with a sense of comfort, but it’s more than that. In my experience, it was easier to adjust to and settle into than other schools, in terms of getting to know the students and teachers. I just got the early impression that in general, it felt like a school that would treat you well. I also notice this when new students come to the school, they are accepted by stude

Approaching Finals Week
by Izzie Rudgley Now that we reach the midpoint of the school year, there is one thing on every student’s mind: finals week. Students find it especially hard to pay attention during this time of year because so many things are going on at once. With the relaxation of winter break still lingering in recently memory and the weather changing, many students are finding it difficult to stay motivated. Whether they are a Grade 8 student anxious about their first high school exam or

Album Review: Let God Sort Em Out by Clipse
by Levi McGrath Over the past year, numerous incredible albums have been released by a variety of artists and musicians. Personally, a genre that I’ve been very immersed in this year has been hip-hop. In my opinion, one of the strongest albums of this genre that has been released within the last year, is “Let God Sort Em Out”, by Clipse. Clipse is a duo, featuring the two brothers Pusha T and Malice. Since 2009, these two have been working separately on their own careers. How

GISS Hosts Post Secondary Mini Fair
By Ocea McClean A few weeks back, our school hosted a mini fair featuring many universities and colleges from across British Columbia. Even though the event only lasted a short amount of time, it had a huge impact on students thinking about their futures. For many of us, it was the first time we were able to speak directly with admissions reps, ask honest questions, and learn what different programs provide for students. One of the most valuable outcomes of the fair was expo

Remembrance Day
By Izzie Rudgley November 11th is a day to honor those who served to defend our values and freedoms and those who continue to serve our country today. As Canadians, we mark the day by wearing poppies, attending memorial services, and observing a moment of silence at 11am, which is the time when the armistice that ended World War I was signed. Remembrance Day is just a part of a larger period of remembrance, called Veterans Week, which runs from November 5th to November 11th.

The GISS Podcast Experience
...thoughts from a guest By Gavinn Forsythe The episode I did was pretty fun. I came up with an answer to the question “what is your least favourite element on the periodic table?” before I went on the podcast. The answer/joke I came up with was “francium, because it has a half-life of 22 minutes which means it gives up just as quick as the country it was named after.” I came up with that joke when I was going to sleep, since it takes me around an hour to fall asleep. I'm
