Renaissance Studies is an immersive elective course taught by Mr. Colleran. In this class you will learn about the intriguing Renaissance Era and its importance in the world's history. This year's class jumped right back into their work after an amazing voyage across the globe. The class travelled from Salt Spring Island to Venice, then flew to Florence where they stayed the majority of their trip. After that they continued their adventure to Rome.

Mr. Colleran spoke highly about how this order of destinations not only follows the geography of Italy but also follows the intense history. Some of the students said that their favorite parts of the journey were in Florence. Multiple students said that it was truly breathtaking to experience the history of Italy and the Renaissance in real life and firsthand.

Galveston Gill, when interviewed, talked about how this trip was an amazing educational experience, and he would “do it all over again, in a heartbeat!” He also spoke about how he loved experiencing the trip with his peers and getting the opportunity to get to know his class more personally and take the bridge from classmates to friends! A major highlight for him was seeing the architecture they studied in person, specifically a church in Venice. He was in awe! One major struggle for Galveston was being apart and so far away from his family for that long. He conquered this fear by staying in contact with his parents and sibling with regular phone calls.

Another person who thoroughly enjoyed this excursion was Mr. Colleran himself! He said that he always loves to see the students realize “that's what we studied in class!” For him, that was one of the highlights of the school year. He also urged students to sign up for the class next year since there is plenty of open space, and if more students do not join the class, it will not be able to proceed into next year. Renaissance Studies is a wonderful learning experience for all people interested in discovering more about that crucial time in European history. So, sign up now!
