We’ve all heard it: Kids today aren’t as motivated. They don’t commit like they used to. They’re always on their phones. Maybe we’ve even said it ourselves. But what if those observations are only part of the story?

In Kids These Days, Dr. Jody Carrington suggests that what looks like distraction or disinterest might actually be disconnection. Life feels faster, louder, and more uncertain than ever, and that can take a toll on everyone - adults and students alike.


The heart of her message is simple: people do better when they feel seen and supported.


When we take care of ourselves and each other, we create the conditions for learning, creativity, and belonging to grow.


So maybe kids these days aren’t so different after all. Maybe we’re all just trying to find our way - and the connections we build along the way are what help us do it.
